Here's Leigh's full interview
Leigh, welcome to Stunning Men and a
big thank you for taking the time to do the interview. You are originally from
Perth, Australia but have now moved to Sydney correct?
Yes, I was born and raised near the
Swan Valley wine region in Perth. It's very beautiful, but too far away from
everything for my taste. I moved to Sydney about 3 years ago with aim of
furthering my fashion career and have not looked back since.
First thing first ... how did you get
into modelling?
Interesting question ... I was about 16
years old and on the train with my family when two strangers said that I should
get into modelling. I was reportedly very embarrassed by such a spontaneous compliment,
but shortly after my dad got me into an agency that ran a few fashion classes.
What do you enjoy the most about
it?
I have always loved the spotlight. The
‘lights, camera, action’ kind of lifestyle and being up in front of everybody
has always given me a rush.
Let’s talk about photo shoots ... how
do you prepare for them?
In all honesty, nothing really beyond a
standard shower and shave. I live a very healthy lifestyle with regular
exercise, so I try to stay in peak form as much as possible.
I think you have stunning classic
looks! What do you think is your best asset?
Thank you! I have been told my eyes are
my strongest feature.
And if you could change one thing about
your body, what would that be?
My calves! I work really hard on my
legs but despite everything I am doing I cannot seem to build or improve them at
all.
You have a stunning physique! How do
you keep in shape and healthy? Do you practise any sport?
Eating healthy and regular gym
exercise. I find that big compound exercises work the best. No sport
specifically as I simply don’t have the time for it, when I was younger though
I played every sport I possibly could
What are your top three favourite gym
exercises and why?
Squats/lunges for the glutes, the
weighted sled push because you can combine it with almost any workout routine,
and the crocodile walk for the abs.
And what’s the best form of cardio for
you?
Tabata Training and Interval Training
(H.I.I.T).
Now how do you keep motivated?
Looking around at some of the other
guys who are the competition in my industry is more than enough motivation. My
job and athletic lifestyle depends upon my being above or at the same calibre.
It is a very competitive environment.
Is it difficult for you to fit training
and fitness into your life?
I personally find that if you want
something bad enough, you will find the time and finances to make it happen.
For me, that's fitness. Doesn’t matter how cold the morning is, I am up and
headed to the gym before work.
We know that you guys keep a healthy
lifestyle ... but if you had a cheat day, what would be your favourite food?
A BIG bowl of spicy Panang
curry! It's a Thai curry dish with big chunks of meat with vegetables
and rice. I can’t get enough of the stuff!
How do you approach a challenge?
I love challenges! Again though, it
does come down to drive and if you want something bad enough. I have a very
analytical personality and will try different angles until one of them brings
success.
Do you have any role models? People who
inspire you?
My dad is the most amazing person I
have ever known and met. Despite the fact that he lives on the other side of
the country, back home in Perth, he is my closest confidant and I value his
input whenever faced with making a major decision.
Now a few quick fun questions if we
may? Do you think you are a good date?
Sure I think I am pretty OK when out
for a date. I have been known to pull out chairs and open doors for people,
have not had any complaints so far! (Big laugh from Leigh)
What do you think is the secret to a
good relationship?
Communication, communication,
communication! If couples are not 110% open and honest with each other, things
won’t last very long at all.
Are you a brief man or a boxer kinda
guy?
Actually ... I hate underwear. It’s
rare for me to ever wear underwear for anything, other than for a photo shoots.
I sweat through them at the gym in about 10mins and just don’t like the feel of
them in general.
What do you listen to on your iPod?
Bits and pieces from every music genre.
I tend to go through phases with my musical taste. There is no one specifically
I listen to.
Your favourite song or piece of music
to play while training or running?
Absolutely love my old school rock
music and metal, along with Linkin Park. Old or new stuff, those guys are
amazing.
What kind of movies do you like?
Anything that tells a good story or is
visually spectacular. Avatar blew me away!
What can’t you live without?
Meat. One of my favourite places in the
whole world is my local all you can eat’ meat restaurant.
Could you finish these two sentences
for us? You wouldn’t know, but I’m very good at … English literature. I really enjoy reading and
writing. I am told all the time that I don’t sound Australian due to my
articulation and how I enunciate everything.
Now ... I’m just not very good at …
... being empathetic when I don’t
understand the reasoning behind doing something.
What three words describe you best?
Driven to reach goals, easy
going ‘go with the flow’ type of guy, always ready with a smile or laugh.
That’s
more than three words but you’re such a good sport that we’ll forgive that one!
(Leigh laughs again)
One last question Leigh, where do you
see yourself and what would you like to be doing in 10 years time?
Someone once told me “Dream big and aim
for the stars, if you miss, you can only hit the moon!” So in 10 years time, my
aim is to be among the stars!
Leigh, it has been a real pleasure to
interview you! Thank you for your time and for sharing some of your life with
us. All the best for the future!
Thank you DJ for this wonderful
opportunity to have my personality and images displayed in your blog! I also
really want to thank my management group Crew Models International. Lamont is
an amazing manager who, in a very short time, has already helped make my
fashion dreams a reality. Lastly, I want to thank all the photographers I
have worked with in the past and of course to those contributing their work to
this feature.
