Declan's interview in full

Declan, welcome to Stunning Men and a big thank you for taking the time to do the interview. You live in Perth, Western Australia ...

Yes, I am also from Perth.

First thing first ... how did you get into modelling?

Basically on a whim, I was just looking for a bit of extra money to support myself while studying at uni.

What do you think is the most fulfilling thing about modelling?

Definitely the exercise and fitness aspect.

How comfortable are you in showing off your physique in a shoot?

I’m relatively comfortable, still only just starting out so the nerves are there but they’ll pass with time.

You are looking amazing. How on earth did you get into such shape?

I exercise at least an hour every day, 4-5 days a week. I do a mix of weight/strength training, calisthenics and cardio. I try to eat as healthy as I can and I don’t smoke or drink.

When did your passion for fitness start?

I’m not exactly sure, ever since I was quite young. When I became super disciplined and serious about fitness it was because I started to apply for the Australian Defence Force, that’s when it really shifted into gear.

What keeps you determined and driven to work out?

Self improvement mostly, I want to be the best person I can be.

What is your diet like?

I try to eat as healthy as I can, as cheaply as I can. It’s a whole bunch of chicken, spinach, bread, milk and peanut butter.

If you had a cheat day, what would be your favourite food?

Pizza. The answer is and always will be pizza. It’s the perfect food, full stop.

And what’s the best form of cardio for you?

Running and boxing. Running because I find it relaxing and I’m always competing against my own distance and time, and boxing because it’s fun and a nice hit to the body over all.

Now a few quick fun questions if we may? Do you think you are a good date?

I’m the best date. Ask any one of my past dates and my current girlfriend and they’ll tell you I’m a good date. I’m a proper gentleman.

Your favourite song or piece of music to play while training or running?

While running I actually play really mellow and calming music, something with silky smooth melodies and uplifting choruses. For general training and weightlifting I go with the classic punk and hard rock. Linkin Park's “Bleed it out", Greenday, Nothing but thieves, Moose Blood, Luca Brasi, Royal Blood and so many more.

Do you have any other passions besides fitness?

Love watching movies and binging TV shows. Pretty big gamer too, though not as much as I used to be

What can’t you live without?

The internet. If the internet were suddenly taken away, I think I’d give myself a month before I went completely insane. It’s how I learn, entertain and generally pass the time.

Could you finish these two sentences for us? You wouldn’t know, but I’m very good at …

Trivial pursuit

Now ... I’m just not very good at …

Doing things on a deadline

One last question Declan, what is your big dream?

To join the army, finish my bachelor’s degree in counselling and become a full time counsellor for schools.

Declan, it has been a real pleasure to interview you! Thank you for your time and for being such good sport. All the best for the future.
