Here is Jon's interview in full

Jon, welcome to Stunning Men and thank you for doing the interview.
Thank you, it’s great to be able and sit down with you guys.

Could we start off by talking a little about yourself and your background?
Yeah, about me ... I'm a pretty easy going guy. I'm married to the woman of my dreams, Mallory, who is a competitive bikini model. My background is primarily military; I have been in the U.S. Navy for a little over 7 years now doing medical as a corpsman. I wasn’t always into bodybuilding, it wasn’t until I met Sean barber the owner of Olympus gym that I got into bodybuilding, since I’ve started lifting he really has taken me under his wing and shown me the ropes.

What do you like about the Navy?
I love my job as a corpsman which is basically a combat medic for the Navy and Marines. I have two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. I wouldn’t trade a single day for anything in the world. My job is to help people when they need it most. It’s very rewarding for me. I get to see patients and treat their physical injuries, it’s a blast; I really can’t see myself doing anything else.

How did you get into modelling?
Well I don’t know actually ... I was at the Nationals watching my friend and mentor Sean Barber compete in heavy weight bodybuilding. I went outside to have a smoke and met Michael Downs. He asked if we could do a photo shoot and it just kind of went from there ... I'm competing in men's physique at the flex Lewis Classic and that will be my first show so I'm kind of nervous just because I don’t know what the judges are looking for or even what I'm supposed to do.

So, you have just worked with Mike Downs for on your first shoot; how was it like?
Yes Mike Downs is the only photographer I've worked with, it was good. I was nervous because it was my first photo-shoot and I wasn’t sure what he was looking for. But once we got started shooting things just seemed to fall into place and it was pretty easy after that; I had a great time working with him. I am hoping that we can do another shoot together shortly before my competition this year.

We are sure there will be more photographers wanting to work with you soon ... What do you enjoy the most about modelling?
There's a couple things really, I'm not gonna lie I liked being in front of the camera, once I got used to the lights and the posing it was fun. I had a good time. Second where else can you get paid to be in shape. I love working out, since I started it’s basically all I do. Third it’s great to travel. I mean I do enough of that in the Navy as it is, but it’s nice to travels without the worries of being on duty.

You have an amazing physique. I imagine the Navy keeps you fit! But besides that, what kind of exercises do you do to keep in top shape? Do you practise any sports?
I don’t actually play any sports now. All growing up I played everything from soccer, football, basketball, and even tried my hand at baseball. But I also was really involved in the boy scouts so we went camping a lot which was great cause it gave my dad and I a chance to get to know each other better.

What is your best lift at the gym?
My best lift, I don’t usually max out because I have a torn muscle in my right shoulder so I can’t do the bench that well but the last time I did max as about 3 months ago and it was 350lbs on the flat bench 5 times.

Could you talk us through your gym/training routine?
I have so many different routines it would be like 35 pages to do them all. But for instance on Mondays when I do chest I’ll do chest, calves and abs. I’ll wait for Mallory to get off work and we’ll eat a quick dinner, wait about an hour then take our pre work out, and drive to the gym. Once there we drop our stuff off and say hey to all our friends and give ourselves a few minutes just to mingle and kind of get in the right mind set to lift. We usually start with flat bench at 55lbs dumbbells just to warm up so I don’t risk injury. Then I’ll move to a heavier weight. Now that I'm 12 weeks form competition I'm lifting 95, 100, 105 ... for reps of 14, 12 and 10 respectively. After that we’ll either do flat bench or decline depending on what week it is. Then we move to the butterfly machine where I’ll lift 15,175, 200 ... and the trick with these is to do 10 full ones followed immediately by 10 short ones where you only open up about an inch, then do the next set. After that we will move over to cable crossovers and set it up to do the bottom top and then the centre of the chest at 40, 50, 60 lbs. for 18,16 and 14 reps respectively. After that chest is done and we move on to calves which depending on the day, we usually just use the machines in the gym and do a high weight high rep burn out type exercise for calves. Then we do abs which is 60 flutter kicks followed by 20 leg raises and 20 cross crunches on each side. Then we take our post work out, head home and eat.

What do you eat in a normal day?
It really depends on the day but I eat around 6-10 times a day depending on what I'm doing that day. I typically eat eggs, walnuts, and a protein drink for breakfast, then every other meal is chicken and sweet potatoes; the amount really depends on where in my cut/bulk cycle I am.

Do you allow yourself a cheat day?
Cheat day ... that’s happened a couple of times but I try to keep it to just a meal. My wife and I typically cheat Sunday afternoon when we can have dinner together.

How do you approach a challenge?
Well I'm very analytical so I look at the challenge and do a risk assessment. From there if it’s worth the risk I do what it takes to complete it. If I have to get outside help then I’m not above that either; we all need help sometimes.

Besides modelling, what gets your interest? What hobbies do you have?
I love being outside. I was a mechanic for a couple of years before I joined the Navy so I love to tinker with stuff. I thoroughly enjoy off-roading; the skill and technique to get through some of the stuff is what I’m about ... anyone can just drive through the mud but can you drive up that rock wall? I also just enjoy camping with my wife and family, we like kayaking, backpacking, racing, all that kind of stuff my brother and I are just big kids. If it makes loud noise, goes fast or is in any way dangerous we will probably find a way to play with it!

What‘s your best way to relax?
To relax I like just sitting on the couch with Mallory and watching a movie or going camping. I really am an outdoors man, so just being outside is relaxing to me

Do you have any role models? People who inspire you?
Yeah right now my biggest role model is probably Sean Barber, I mean he's a good guy and he's very business smart. When we meet we were both out riding motorcycles and from there we just kind of hit it off. We've known each other probably about three years now and when I told him that I wanted to do bodybuilding he was one of the few that didn’t say “well buddy you’re too small”! He gave me the tools and knowledge I needed to be able to get started and has been the biggest help on my journey so far. Any time I have questions he answers them and as I mentioned earlier he has really just taken me under his wing and set me up for success.

Can we now have a few fun questions? Do you think you are a good date?
Well I haven’t been in the dating scene for a while but I guess I like it best when Mallory and I just go to dinner and get a chance to catch up just me and her, no diet no bodybuilding, no phones just me and her. We try and do that as often as possible because we are both so busy. But otherwise I guess I’m the traditional kinda guy so dinner and the movies is a perfect date for me

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
Ha-ha shit I have lots of these stories ... probably the craziest was one night Mallory was on the back of my Honda CBR 600 RR and we entered a race that was the entire loop around Nashville, Tn. Well when I entered the race I didn’t make her get off, I let her stay on the back and out of probably about 100 riders we placed 4th, so that was kind of cool. Looking back on it though, either one of us could have been hurt really bad that night.

Are you a brief man or a boxer kind of guy?
Boxer briefs actually; I like the feeling of the briefs but the legs of the boxers.

What do you listen to on your iPod?
This one is easy there are only three genres on my iPod: country rock and hip-hop.

What kind of movies do you like?
Obviously action!

One last question Jon, where do you see yourself and what would you like to be doing in 10 years time?
In 10 years ... man that’s a way down the road ... I’ll be close to retiring out of the military so I’d like to have my degree finished by then, maybe have a family ... by then hell who knows? Maybe I’ll even grow up a little.

Jon you have been a real pleasure to interview! Thank you for your time and for being such good sport! All the best with the competition and for the future!
